Hydrogen in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

A reservoir of initiatives and solutions to foster the development of the Hydrogen industry, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region has embarked on the energy transition.

Vehicle of the Future cluster, leading this industrial sector

Logo Hydrogène Bourgogne-Franche-ComtéSince it was created in 2005, the cluster has been responsible, with all the partners in the ecosystem, for channelling the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell sector: an industrial Hydrogen sector that is gradually becoming structured and boasts numerous projects and achievements.

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Hydrogen Club - H2 BFC Club

The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Hydrogen Club was launched in March 2020 as a continuation of the roadmap for the sector adopted by the Regional authority in 2019.

Its aim is to help implement the Regional roadmap and build up momentum in the hydrogen sector by bringing together the different actors in the value chain, from production through to all the different uses.

The Club is also supporting the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region to achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2050.

How to join?

If you are based in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté or you are looking to come and work in the region, why not join our network!

The Club is open to all industrial companies, research bodies, organisations serving companies (non-profit bodies or others). Membership dues depend on several criteria (legal form, size of workforce, etc.)

Industrial skills and expertise in research labs

Industry

The region has a solid industrial fabric of firms specialised in the processing of metals and materials, surface treatment, etc. which together provide the tools needed to manufacture tomorrow's complete hydrogen systems.

Alstom, Delfingen, Faurecia, Gaussin, H2Sys, Justy, Mahytec, Presse Étude, Rougeot, Schrader Pacific Adv. Valves, and many others.

Research

20 years ago, the research work began. In recent years the region has become home to a range of top-level research organisations. The scientific and innovation themes developed for Hydrogen-Energy systems concern both applications and methodological approaches.

Application-related areas of interest include the use of hydrogen as a vector for long-term storage of renewable energies, hydrogen micro combined heat and power systems, solid hydrogen storage and fuel cell systems for transport and mobility. On the methodological side, the work being done mainly concerns increasing the energy efficiency and durability of hydrogen-energy systems.

Institut FC-LAB, Fuel cells Plateforme, Laboratoire ICB, Institut FEMTO-ST are just some of the research labs. Training is also focusing on devising and designing tomorrow's energy systems: a master's in engineering course (CMI) that is unique in France, sponsored by Rougeot Energie.

A region officially approved as a "Hydrogen Territory" - ENRgHy project
